611 Nose

The Virginia Museum of transportation announced on Friday, that they are forming a committee to look into rebuilding the Norfolk & Western 611 for excursion service.

I was not lucky enough to get to see her under steam during the Norfolk Southern original Steam program. She was retired in 1994 to her home at the VMT.

With the rebirth of mainline steam on the NS as part of their 30th Anniversary celebration, the desire to see the 611 under her own power has grown. It would be a great addition to the 21st Century Steam program.

Check out the official website and consider making a contribution to bring her back to life.
